Live Kidney Donor - Travel Reimbursement Scheme

The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) in its commitment to the Western Australian organ donor program has reviewed the funding available for live kidney donors.

The new WACHS live kidney donor - travel reimbursement scheme will commence from the 1 July 2006.

The purpose of this scheme is to assist permanent WACHS residents to participate in the Western Australian live kidney donation program.

WACHS will reimburse reasonable travel expenses incurred by suitable donors travelling to Perth for kidney donation assessment, retrieval and one-post operative visit (if this cannot occur through Telehealth).

This scheme is in administered separately from the Patient Assisted Travel Scheme

The costs for medical tests, hospital accommodation and medical specialist appointments are met by the tertiary hospital coordinating the live kidney donation.
