Location Northam and surrounds
Intakes February and August
Program description

Northam Health Service supports the Northam district and surrounding area.  Graduates will be provided with a broad medical and surgical experience in the Northam Health Service. The program includes a short rotation to a community mental health service and a negotiable rotation to a district health service providing experience in a small rural environment.

There is also option of an additional six month extension comprising placement in a specialty area such as emergency department, mental health, aged care, and small site generalist.

Narrogin Health Service supports the Narrogin district and the surrounding area. Graduates will be provided with a broad medical and surgical experience in the Narrogin Health Service. The program includes a short rotation to a community mental health service and a negotiable rotation to a district health service providing experience in a small rural environment.

Program description

Merredin Health Service supports the Merredin district and surrounding area. Graduates will be provided with a broad medical, surgical and aged care experience in the Merredin Health Service. The program includes a short rotation to a community mental health service; negotiable rotation to a district health service providing experience in a small rural environment and rotation to the residential aged care unit.

There is also the option of an additional six month extension program comprising placement in a specialty area such as emergency department, mental health, aged care and small site generalist.

Wheatbelt location description

  • Northam is centrally located in the Western Wheatbelt about 100 km east of Perth, with a population of around 7,000. Northam, Toodyay and York provide a wide range of recreation activities, with many sporting clubs and social activities available. The Avon Valley and surrounds are home to numerous festivals and activities including the Avon Descent, agricultural shows and music festivals.
  • Narrogin is the major centre of the Southern Wheatbelt located 198 km from Perth, with a population around 5,000. Many smaller townships surround Narrogin. The town has a wide variety of sport and recreation activities, as well as community events.
  • The Eastern District is based around Merredin, which is located 260 km east of Perth-a comfortable two and a half hours drive (but also accessible by train or bus). Merredin is a major site between Kalgoorlie and Perth, and is the hub for the Eastern District of the Wheatbelt.
