The $120.4 million Busselton Health Campus is now open with all patients transferred and settled into the new facility.

By 10.15am, all 10 patients had been moved to the new Busselton Health Campus via trolleys and wheelchairs.

Acting Regional Director Jan Cook said she was very pleased with how the move had been carried out.

“While the transition of services has been an extremely busy and demanding time for our staff, it has also been an overwhelming success,” she said.

“Our main focus was on patient safety.  It has been completely uneventful, which is exactly what we wanted and that is all credit to our staff.”

She said the list of firsts began to take place almost immediately.

“We had the first patient arrive at the new emergency department and the last baby born at the old hospital became the first baby to be welcomed into the new maternity suite.  Hopefully we will also soon see our first baby born here.”

Medical Lead Dr John Pollard said the opening of the new department had also gone off without a hitch.

“The former Busselton Hospital’s emergency department closed at 7.00am as the new facility opened its doors and the first patient walked in at 7.10am.

“By 10.15am we had four patients through the new emergency department and it is business as normal,” he said.

Jeremy Higgins, Operations Manager Coastal, said the mood among staff was “upbeat.”

“From a staffing perspective everyone is very excited to be working from this fantastic new facility and are thrilled with how smoothly the transition has gone,” he said.

“The new volunteer Meet and Greet service has also done an amazing job welcoming people to the new campus.

“This is the beginning of a fantastic new expanded and integrated service in Busselton.”

Patient Frederick Richards was transferred this morning and said the staff did an outstanding job.

“The staff here are amazing.  They organised everything for me so I didn’t have to worry about a thing.”
