Important COVID-19 update for Port Hedland

You may be aware that there is a vessel currently anchored off the coast of Port Hedland with two crew members on board who have tested positive for COVID-19.

It’s important you have access to the facts and understand there is no risk to country Western Australian communities.

The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) wants to assure you that:

▪️ The vessel has no touch points in Western Australia and crew have not yet disembarked. When they do, we know we can undertake this safely and with no risk to members of the public.

▪️ As recently as last month, WACHS completed a planning exercise based on this very scenario so we know exactly how to manage the situation effectively.

Next steps

▪️ An incident response team is being deployed to provide assistance.

▪️ Crew members remain well and will not need to attend hospital.

▪️ The crew will need to complete hotel quarantine following strict infection control measures and with support from the incident management team.

It's important to be clear there is no risk of community transmission.
