Bunbury Regional Hospital has been awarded the 2022 Most Outstanding Regional Hospital at the Australia Patients Association (APA) awards.

The APA, an independent not-for-profit association dedicated to protecting the rights and interest of patients across Australia, recognised the hospital for its commitment to improving patient experiences and health outcomes.

The national award is particularly significant because the nominations are made by the patients and families that WA Country Health Service (WACHS) provides care for.

Bunbury Regional Hospital Director Jeff Calver said that listening to the local community and learning from their feedback has been integral in continually improving the service provided.

“We’ve been on a journey at Bunbury Regional Hospital and as part of that, we’ve been actively engaging with patients and their families, listening to them and understanding how we can do better.

“Whether their feedback is positive, negative or neutral – we use it to learn and improve the service we provide,” he said.

Mr Calver – who accepted the award on behalf of the hospital on Thursday – said it served as recognition of all that local staff had been doing for their local community.

“This award is a testament to their work – whether it’s our doctors, nurses, allied health teams, cooks, cleaners, support services and everyone in between.

“There’s no doubt the last two years have been an exceptionally challenging time to work in health but time and again, staff at Bunbury Regional Hospital step up to maintain the health and wellbeing of their community”.

Bunbury Regional Hospital is WA Country Health Service’s biggest and busiest facility providing services to more than 170,000 locals and tourists each year.

$200.1 million has been committed by the State Government to redevelop the facility into one of the most modern hospitals in regional Australia - reflecting its role as an important community healthcare hub for the entire South West region.
