Junior Doctor duo among the best in country WA
Congratulations to our very own Doctor Michelle dos Santo and Doctor Renita Whittle on being named finalists in the WA Rural Health Excellence Awards.
The pair have been shortlisted in the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the Year category thanks to their dedication to country communities.
Dr dos Santos made the drastic career change from teaching to medicine after helping to build a medical centre in Vanuatu and providing disaster relief in the country after a category five cyclone.
Now at Bunbury Regional Hospital, Dr dos Santos is an executive member of the Bunbury Doctors in Training Society where she advocates for both colleagues and patients.
Joining Dr dos Santos as a finalist is Dr Renita Whittle who joined Broome Health Campus in 2021 as an RMO.
In 2022, Dr Whittle was awarded the Broome Hospital Junior Medical Officer of the Year and has a passion for improving health outcomes for rural patients.
She is described by her colleagues and peers as “approachable, hardworking, determined and compassionate.”
Among her accolades, Dr Whittle has also been actively involved in the Junior Medical Officers of the Kimberley Society as co-chair and sits on the Rural Doctors’ Association Board.
These women join more than 30 health professionals and teams to be shortlisted from over 130 nominations for this year’s WA Rural Health Excellence Awards – including 19 WACHS finalists.
WACHS is extremely proud to celebrate all the health professionals nominated this year for their commitment, dedication and passion.
