Speech Pathologist Hannah Peters serves South West communities with the language of kindness

When WA Country Health Service South West Speech Pathologist Hannah Peters supported a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) patient requiring complex care recently, the team at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) Department of Global and Refugee Health were quick to praise her for her efforts.
With the client coming from a refugee background, Hannah made sure to organise resources and intervention care at Busselton Naturaliste Community Health, before they made the trip up to PCH.
Senior Speech Pathologist Shannon Laya from PCH’s Refugee Health team, praised Hannah for her consistent service and professionalism when providing patient-centred care.
“Working with Hannah revealed to us that she appreciates and understands the community in which she works,” Shannon shared.
“She recognises the role she plays in supporting that community and goes beyond the basics – we could not have provided the continuity of care for our patient had Hannah not shown up with integrity and compassion.”
Shannon said she would welcome the opportunity to work with Hannah again in the future.
For Hannah, her collaboration with the Refugee Health team and how the partnership with the family helped to reach important goals for the young client.
“I feel incredibly grateful to work at the Busselton Health Campus and to be part of such a passionate and dedicated Allied Health team,” Hannah said.
Quick access to translating and interpreting services, meant the family were supported during the journey and felt fully involved in the assessment process.
“By working together and drawing on the expertise of different services, we were able to provide a more accessible, coordinated and family-centred service,” Hannah added.
“This experience was a wonderful example of how collaboration across teams can make a meaningful difference to a child and their family.”
