Completed project - Harvey Health Service

The $13 million redevelopment of Harvey Health Service provides local residents with state-of-the-art facilities combined with the latest advances in health care. The project was completed in May 2017.

Completed project - Harvey Health Service

Project overview

The completion of the $13 million redevelopment of the Harvey Health Service enhances the delivery of healthcare to the local community and improving working conditions for staff.

With an 18-month build, and more than 54,000 hours worked, the project had a positive impact on local businesses and jobs, with a third of the workforce from the South-West region.

The redevelopment was completed in stages to minimise disruption to patients.

The new emergency department opened first, followed by completion of the new main entry, as well as improved community-based services, including outpatient facilities and new administration and reception.

The final stage involved refurbishment of the ward areas, with practical completion of all the building work now complete.

By combining state-of-the-art facilities with the latest advances in healthcare, the way patients receive care in regional and remote communities is being transformed.

The Harvey Health Service redevelopment was completed in May 2017 and officially opened by Health Minister Roger Cook MLA.

Harvey residents are now benefiting from a new hospital emergency department as part of the $13 million redevelopment of Harvey Health Service.

The new ED completes stage one of the project and includes:

  • a resuscitation bay
  • acute bay
  • treatment room
  • mental health assessment room
  • new ambulance entrance
  • staff workstation

Stage two of the redevelopment included refurbishment of outpatient areas (including three consulting rooms and a group therapy room), a medical records room, pathology specimen collection room and new administration, reception and main entry.

The entire Harvey Health Service redevelopment was completed in May 2017.

Improved services

Improved facilities for community-based services, including outpatient facilities, enabled care closer to home for the small South West coastal community.

Upgrades included:

  • minor refurbishment of the inpatient ward
  • refurbishment and co-location of ambulatory care services
  • relocation and co-location of medical records
  • relocation and refurbishment of pathology
  • refurbishment of the main hospital entrance
  • refurbishment of the body hold room to include a viewing room

Emergency Telehealth Service

Combining state-of-the-art facilities with the latest advances in healthcare is transforming the way patients receive care in regional and remote communities.

Technology plays a huge part in modern day healthcare and newly installed telehealth equipment in the hospital's ED is already improving access to emergency medical care in the Harvey community.

Local clinicians can now access emergency medicine specialists via high definition videoconferencing, to support them in the treatment of very acute emergency patients.
