Mowanjum Community member Leah Umbagai rolls up for COVID vaccine
Leah Umbagai from the Mowanjum Community recently received her first COVID vaccine at the Derby COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic.
As the Arts Development Coordinator at the Mowanjum Aboriginal Art and Culture Centre, Leah has an important role in educating future generations and visitors about the Worrorra, Ngarinyin and Wunumbal tribes, who make up the Mowanjum Community outside Derby.
“I work with community kids doing activities involved in cultural singing, dancing, on country camps and working with old people with language projects. Making our community safe,” Leah said.
By having frequent interaction with the community, it was essential Leah rolled up for the Kimberley and received her COVID vaccine.
The WA Country Health Service (WACHS) is encouraging everyone to get vaccinated to help keep remote communities like Mowanjum safe from COVID.
All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people 16 years and over are eligible to receive the vaccination.
Bookings are essential and WACHS continues to roll clinics out right across country WA. Clinic times and locations are available on HealthyWA.
