For Graduate Registered Nurse Fejiro Bassey, the past 12 months in the WA Country Health Service graduate nursing program has been an incredible journey of learning and growth.

“Each day has been a chance to grow, adapt and refine my skills while working alongside experienced professionals,” she said.

“The program has opened doors to a wealth of opportunities and provided structured learning that sets a strong foundation for career progression.”

Currently based at Warren Health Service in Manjimup, Fejiro has witnessed first-hand the unique opportunities that come with working in country healthcare.

“The hospital has been more than just a workplace – it’s been a training ground that has refined my clinical skills, broadened my perspective and deepened my passion for patient care,” she said.

“The dynamic nature of country healthcare means I’m constantly exposed to diverse cases, allowing me to develop expertise across multiple areas of nursing.

“One day I might be working in acute care and the next I’m supporting a maternity case or responding to an emergency.”

One of the highlights of working in country WA for Fejiro is the strong sense of camaraderie and support from colleagues and mentors.

“The friendships and networks I have built are invaluable. There’s a real sense of teamwork and everyone looks out for each other,” she said.

Fejiro has also embraced the lifestyle that comes with country living.

“The South West offers an amazing work-life balance. The beautiful surroundings, the slower pace and the welcoming community make it a great place to live and work,” she said.

Fejiro encourages other nurses to consider a graduate program in country WA no matter their level of experience.

“This journey will shape your confidence and skills - nursing is a profession of lifelong learning and every experience will shape you into a stronger, more skilled and compassionate nurse.”
