Opportunities abound for regional allied health professionals

For Senior Physiotherapist Jenene Taylor, moving from Perth to the Pilbara has been a golden opportunity to expand her skill set and challenge herself professionally.
Now based in Karratha, working in population health, Jenene has been putting all aspects of her training – including musculoskeletal, cardiorespiratory and paediatrics – to good use.
“Working in a senior role in a regional setting, the broader scope of responsibilities means I’ve been involved in a wide range of clinical and operational areas, including managing a team,” she said.
“I've had to become more resourceful and collaborative, particularly across the multidisciplinary team and wider hospital and community services.”
Jenene was working as a Senior Physiotherapist in Child Development Services in Perth when she applied for our allied health recruitment pool three years ago.
Applicants are considered for positions throughout WA Country Health Service – including casual, short-term, long-term, permanent, part-time or full-time.
P1 positions relate to base grade roles, while P2 positions are senior roles that typically include supervisory and managerial duties.
“I came to Karratha on secondment as a P1, as I grew up in Newman and wanted to return to the Pilbara,” Janene said.
“My family became settled so I took a chance to extend the contact and give up my permanent role in Perth, in the hopes that I would get a permanent role here in Karratha. I did, and then the opportunity came up to progress back to the senior role.”
Jenene said working as a rural generalist had been “a big learning opportunity”.
“It’s been challenging and interesting; I’m still finding my feet and enjoying the growth,” she said.
“I love working with our team in Karratha. I’ve found that the level of staff interaction and teamwork is very strong regionally, which has positively impacted my professional growth and leadership capabilities.”
Outside work, Jenene enjoys the relaxed pace of country life and the world-class boating, camping and fishing.
“I also get to travel for work to remote places that I otherwise would never have got the opportunity to visit,” she added.
