First pharmacist completes Resident Training Program in country WA
The first pharmacist to complete the WA Country Health Service Resident Training Program found the Kimberley lifestyle so rewarding, he has decided to stay on in the region.
Kane Suchenia is the first pharmacist to undertake the Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha) two year Resident Training Program in country WA, successfully completing his training at Broome Regional Hospital.
“Broome Regional Hospital is a great size for an early career pharmacist,” Kane said.
“It’s big enough to experience a wide range of disease states and specialty areas, while also being small enough that you know most people working there in a short amount of time.
“I learned a lot and made great friends along the way.”
The accomplishment is an important milestone on the road to building a pharmacist workforce capacity throughout rural and remote Western Australia.
Speaking with AdPha, WA Country Health Service Staff Development Pharmacist and Training Program Lead Melanie Utting praised Kane’s achievements.
“Kane has shown resilience, dedication and an adventurous spirit throughout his journey.”
“It’s been a pleasure to witness his professional and personal growth as he embraced every opportunity to learn from the diverse expertise in the team, while also exploring the wonders of the Kimberley.”
For Kane, completing the course in the Kimberley has also provided him with other opportunities.
“It’s also a great launchpad to explore the Kimberley – the country out here is beautiful.”
“I’m also completing Medication Management Review accreditation and will be doing some vaccinating as well,” he said.
“I’m really enjoying seeing the community aspect of pharmacy and have come to appreciate how important this sector is in keeping people healthy.”
