Wendy's dedication to women and midwives recognised for excellence
Whether it’s caring for pregnant women in her community, or supporting fellow midwives across the state, WA Country Health Service’s (WACHS) Wendy Hoey has been dedicated to supporting midwifery services for the past three decades.
It’s this dedication to providing outstanding care that has seen her named a finalist in the Excellence in Rural and Remote Nursing category at the 2026 WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.
Based in Newman, Wendy is an Endorsed Midwife and Clinical Midwife Specialist.
She also supports other midwives across the state as a Clinical Midwife Consultant in the WACHS Command Centre with the Midwifery and Obstetric Emergency Telehealth Service (MOETS).
Through her role, Wendy looks after a caseload of around 30 women, providing care from conception up to 36 weeks, and up to six weeks postnatally if needed.
Wendy said this recognition highlights not just her work, but that of all nurses and midwives in remote communities.
“I’m passionate about every woman having access to high quality midwifery care regardless of where they live - and every woman deserves a dedicated midwife,” she said.
“This nomination is recognition for every remote nurse and midwife providing care in their community so people can stay on Country and closer to home wherever possible.”
Category winners, along with the 2026 WA Nurse or Midwife of the Year and the recipient of the 2026 Lifetime Achievement Honour, will be announced at the WA Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards Gala Ball on Saturday 9 May 2026.
