Celebrating staff at Laverton Hospital and what remote nursing means to them
With the new Laverton Hospital powering-up, we’re taking a closer look at the team who are keeping the current site ticking over.
Graduate Nurse Josie reflected on the start of her six-month rotation through her Graduate Program and what remote nursing and working at Laverton means to her.
“I chose to work in Laverton because I believe remote nursing will challenge me to grow in clinical understanding and help to broaden my cultural awareness,” Josie said.
“The work involves holistic care for patients in the local community during emergencies, transfers with RFDS and caring for palliative patients to pass away on Country.
“It’s rewarding, varied and keeps me on my toes.”
And the staff don’t just keep the place running – they work together to create a positive and supportive space for staff and community members alike.
Over the past three years, Clinical Nurse, Kim Roldan worked as an agency nurse at Laverton Multi-Purpose Service and returned regularly on contracts. She liked the team so much in January of this year she decided to stay at Laverton permanently.
Similarly, Deanne Ross, who came to Laverton more than 13 years ago – also as an agency nurse – loved Laverton and remote nursing so much she took a permanent position at the hospital.
Jinju Philipose and Bintumol Chacko who work at Laverton, have come all the way from India to Laverton with their families.
Bintumol has shared that she loves working remotely and with the Laverton community.
DON/HSM – Laverton Heather Hutchinson echoed the team’s sentiments.
“I love working with them. They support one another, resulting in a very cohesive team,’ Heather said.
“We are all excited about new facility as it will be the health hub at Laverton.”
