Major Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment complete
The $192 million Geraldton Health Campus Redevelopment is now complete, delivering a modernised, fit-for-purpose facility for the Geraldton and Midwest community that will reduce the need for patients to travel to Perth for treatment.
The redevelopment is the biggest in more than two decades, and increases hospital capacity by 25 additional beds, helping meet growing demand in the region.
Thanks to the refurbishments, Geraldton Health Campus now includes:
- an expanded Emergency Department with increased services and capacity
- a new Intensive Care Unit and High Dependency Unit
- an integrated mental health service including a Mental Health Observation Area, Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit and Adult Mental Health Inpatient Unit, alongside the new Midwest Mental Health and Community Alcohol and Drug Service facility
- modern, fit-for-purpose technology and infrastructure upgrades to better support patient-centred care as well as improving efficiencies and sustainability across the campus.
The first services, including the Emergency Department and Community Mental Health, are set to welcome patients from August, marking a significant step forward in local healthcare delivery. Additional services will progressively move into the facility from September.
Works are continuing on a new standalone radiation oncology unit. This will deliver the first cancer treatment service of its kind in the Midwest, enabling patients to access lifesaving care closer to home.
The unit is jointly funded by the State Government ($25.8 million) and Commonwealth Government ($12.6 million), with completion expected next year.
More than $19 million in contracts will have been awarded to Midwest businesses for the construction of the redevelopment main works, supporting local jobs and industry.
This project forms part of the State Government’s record $5.5 billion investment in health infrastructure, the largest hospital building program in Western Australia’s history.
The redevelopment is part of a broader program of investment in regional health infrastructure across Western Australia, including major upgrades at Albany Health Campus, Bunbury Health Campus, and hospitals in Tom Price and Meekatharra.
Together, these projects are strengthening healthcare access across regional WA and ensuring communities can receive high-quality care closer to where they live.
