  • An example of the two maternity baths set for the new Karratha Health Campus
Birth of new maternity facility at Karratha Health Campus 09 November 2017 Expectant mothers and newborn babies will be treated to state-of-the-art maternity facilities when the new Karratha Health Campus opens its doors. The maternity service, on the first floor of the new campus, will feature two birthing suites and six single inpatient bedrooms allowing for greater privacy. Clinical lead Monica Seth said the new maternity wing will include a thoughtful mix of smart design and top-class medical equipment, with slightly larger than normal single rooms to allow for the built in baby baths. “We want our new parents to be as comfortable and relaxed as possible, and the new birthing suites will have space, light and privacy as well as the most modern equipment and technology at hand,” said Monica. Each birthing room has also been designed with a deep bath for water immersion during labour as well as fully equipped ensuites. The baths are being shipped...
  • Building of new Cunderdin Health Centre begins 07 November 2017 Building of the new health centre in Cunderdin commenced in early October and the slab is due to be poured in November. The new health centre, which is being built by Firm Constructions, will replace Cunderdin Hospital and promises a new era for local health care. WA Country Health Service Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said the new health centre would focus on promoting good health, preventing illness, and the management of chronic disease. “Modern health care is about people staying well so they can minimise time in hospital," he said. "The opening of this new health centre will give the local community improved primary health and community care facilities. “Round-the-clock emergency care will continue in the new emergency department with state-of-the-art equipment – including Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS) access.” The health centre will be equippe...
  • Members of the Warren Medical Advisory Committee, a group made up of medical practitioners and WA Country Health Service (WACHS) operational staff, recently toured the construction site of the new $39.3million Warren Health Service. WACHS South West Regional Director Kerry Winsor said the outside structure of the building was largely completed and that work had begun in earnest on the inside. “The internal fittings of the inpatient ward and emergency department are currently being completed. This includes the ceilings, internal walls, cabinetry, flooring, plumbing and electrical,” Ms Winsor said. “Over the next few months we will be working on carparks and roadways, the inpatient ward, emergency department and completing the administration and outpatient departments.” Dr Paul Griffiths was one of the admitting and attending doctors at Warren Health Service that toured the construction site. “The tour helped us appreciate how complicated the inside of a hospital is. They are exceptionally engineered and you don’t normally get to see that,” Dr Griffiths said. “Hospitals are more than bricks, walls and roofs. It’s the finer details we don’t see – they are living, breathing machines.” The Warren Medical Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly and recognises the importance of medical practitioner input and advice on operations of the Warren Health Service. Once completed, the Warren Health Service in Manjimup will include a state-of-the-art emergency department, ambulance facilities, inpatient ward, surgical services including operating theatre, birthing suite, medical imaging, pathology department, primary health care and other support services. The construction of the Warren Health Service is part of WACHS’s $300 million capital works program to improve capital infrastructure in 37 towns across the Wheatbelt, Great Southern, Midwest and South West regions.
