WA artist Leanne Bray has been holding workshops with local community groups and health staff to create her unique artwork which will adorn the internal staircase wall. Leanne said the Karratha community had embraced the opportunity to get involved and make a lasting and colourful contribution to their new health campus. “More than 60 people attended the workshops which focused on the vast Pilbara landscape and the sessions were about using texture and colour to explore the landscape in a dynamic way,” said Leanne. “Within the workshops I introduced a mono-print technique using a ‘gelli plate’ and the idea was to produce more than 500 individual prints. These prints will then be scanned and assembled to make the final design which will be digitally print...
  • Telehealth services to increase at Warren Health Service 13 March 2018 Manjimup residents will have to travel less to see their medical specialists once the new Warren District Hospital opens, according to the local Telehealth Coordinators. South West Telehealth Coordinators Jenny Elms and Renae Seward said they expected more local people to be able to use telehealth to speak to their specialists after the new hospital opened, because there would be more telehealth equipment. Ms Elms said that recent growth in local use of telehealth services would likely continue as the new hospital would have three extra telehealth facilities. The current hospital has the Emergency Telehealth Service (ETS) and one dedicated outpatient telehealth room – which enables one local person a time to use videoconferencing equipment to speak to their specialists in Perth and Bunbury. Ms Elms said the new hospital, which is due to open later in 2018, would have an added teleh...

  • Artists are being sought for the new Midwest Cancer Hostel
Midwest artists canvassed for public art program 26 February 2018 Local artists are being canvassed for a special public art program at the new Midwest Cancer Hostel. Expressions of interest are being sought from artists in the Geraldton or Murchison area who are experienced in delivering public art projects. The commissions will be awarded to an individual artist, several individual artists, a team of artists or a combination of these. Redevelopment project officer Lynne Nanini said the 2D artwork should explore the theme ‘home away from home’ and will be displayed in each of the seven accommodation rooms located in the new hostel. “There is also a possibility that the artwork or elements of the design will be replicated and transposed and stencilled on wooden screening separating the onsite carpark and communal garden area,” said Lynne. Expressions of interest close at 4pm on Monday 19 March 2018. For more information contact...
