Community gets hands on with artwork for new Onslow health campus 09 August 2019 The incredible artwork at the brand new Onslow Health Campus was the talk of the town at the official opening on 31 August 2019. Minister for Health the Honourable Roger Cook MLA joined staff, patients, community members and funding partners to celebrate the new facility which has been operational since December 2018. The hospital and healthcare hub, which provides regular clinics to the local Onslow community for important health services, has already seen more than 1,200 emergency department presentations. Perth artist Simon Gilby was commissioned through the State Government’s Percent for Art Scheme, artist-in-residence program to engage with the local community to develop artwork which told the stories of Onslow and the people who live there. Karratha Health Campus hosts international dignitary 07 August 2019 Karratha Health Campus was abuzz with excitement on 24 July 2019 as staff prepared to welcome Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, the Honourable James Marape. Mr Marape spent the afternoon in Karratha to conclude an Australian tour with his delegation of PNG Governors and Ministers and, with only an hour to spare before flying home, took the opportunity to visit the campus which has been operational since September 2018. Pilbara Regional Director Margi Faulkner, and West and Inland Pilbara Operations Manager Alistair Pinto greeted the delegation, which included Australian High Commissioner Mr Bruce Davis. The tour included a discussion about the design and construction of the campus, which is the biggest investment in a regional public hospital ever undertaken in WA, and a chance to showcase the incredible artwork throughout the building. Northam Hospital Ladies Auxiliary donation means local men won’t need to travel for prostate biopsies 07 August 2019 The Northam Hospital Ladies Auxiliary never tire in their efforts to raise funds for their local hospital, recently donating a trans rectal probe to the Urology unit enabling Wheatbelt men access to prostate biopsies locally, saving them a trip to Perth. Jennifer Lee, WA Country Health Service Acting Operations Manager, Western Wheatbelt, said that prior to receiving the additional equipment, local men would need to travel to Perth to have the biopsy procedure that could help diagnose them with prostate issues. “The men in our community no longer need to wait on the metropolitan wait list and, depending on their diagnosis, can have earlier access to the next stage of treatment leading to better health outcomes,” said Ms Lee. “Some of the Ladies Auxiliary volunteers have been working with Northam Hospital for nearly forty years – they are very dedicated to helping ...

Geraldton named most outstanding regional hospital in Australia for the second year in a row 26 July 2019 Geraldton Health Campus has been named the country’s most outstanding regional hospital for the second year in a row following the Australian Patients Association (APA) awards overnight. The APA, an independent not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting the rights and interest of patients across Australia, said the Midwest hospital had consistently demonstrated a steadfast commitment to listening to patients and implementing strategies to ensure patient centred care. TEAM KIDS training – an ‘amazing’ way to help develop healthier families 25 July 2019 An online health training program for families has received a strong endorsement from an Albany mother and daughter. Miriam Little and her 10 year old daughter Emily completed the 10 week online ‘TEAM KIDS’ program after Miriam heard about the program through her daughter’s school. WA Country Health Service Population Health Program Manager Kate Hawkings said while this evidence based program had been delivered face to face in the Perth metropolitan area for a number of years with good results, the aim of the online program was to make it accessible to country families. The program has been offered in all country regions of WA during term two and three as part of a trial.
