Portable isolation rooms to better protect country residents from COVID-19 31 July 2020 Six portable isolation anterooms are to be deployed to regional WA to keep country residents safe from COVID-19. The State Government has purchased six portable isolation anterooms to help keep regional and remote Western Australians safe from the spread of infectious diseases, including COVID-19. The Safespear portable anterooms can convert any room into a negative pressure or positive pressure isolation room to keep infected patients in a safe, separate space, as well as protect vulnerable patients from the threat of infectious diseases. The anterooms fit to an existing doorway and form an airlock entrance with the accompanying ventilation systems creating negative or positive pressure to prevent infectious airborne or droplet transmission. Hear, hear! New audiology booth opens at Kununurra Hospital 30 July 2020 A new audiology booth now open at Kununurra Hospital is set to give local families easier access to potentially life-changing ear health services. Thefacility will give visiting audiologists and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialists expanded capability to carry out ear health checks on children aged 0-4 years, in addition to the checks provided for children four years and older. The new purpose-built booth will also mean more accurate hearing tests for children and adults alike, and enable convenient pre-operative and post-operative consultations. It also means that Aboriginal children from remote East Kimberley communities can be seen and treated in Kununurra, closer to home. Local Aboriginal business awarded landscaping tender for Kalgoorlie Renal Hostel 30 July 2020 Local Aboriginal business, Yonga Djena, was recently awarded the tender to undertake landscaping and irrigation works at the new Kalgoorlie Renal Hostel. WA Country Health Service A/Regional Director Peter Tredinnick said landscaping had a positive effect on both patients and staff. “Studies have shown that viewing landscaping can reduce patient stress and anxiety, contributing to quicker recovery,” Mr Tredinnick said. “Landscaping also provides a much welcomed respite to staff. “As a local business, the Yonga Djena team will now be able to see first-hand how their work contributes to the wellbeing of the community. Yonga Djena commenced work on 18 May and has recently completed the project. Goldfields residents to receive MRI technology soon 29 July 2020 Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology will soon arrive in the Goldfields region for the first time, with Siemens Healthcare Pty Ltd awarded the contract to supply and install an MRI machine at the Kalgoorlie Health Campus. The 1.5T Magnetom Sola MRI machine has the unique ability to perform remote scanning of patients, allowing technologists who are based in Perth or other regional sites to connect to the machine and provide real time technical support and training. In 2019, almost 600 patients from the Goldfields accessed the Patient Assisted Travel Scheme to travel almost 1,200 kilometres on a round trip to Perth to receive MRI services. Having an MRI machine locally will provide residents with timely access to this diagnostic service closer to home, without the added cost and disruption of travelling to Perth. New Kalgoorlie Renal Hostel set to welcome clients soon 29 July 2020 A new 19-bed residential facility will soon be made available to patients undertaking dialysis at the Kalgoorlie Health Campus. The modern $7.4 million Kalgoorlie Renal Hostel, located in close proximity to the Kalgoorlie Health Campus, has reached practical completion and is expected to welcome clients from September. It consists of five accommodation blocks and three amenity blocks including a reception, kitchen, dining area, activity room and laundry.
