    Happy cooks at Narrogin Health Service 17 October 2017 The food service staff at Narrogin Health Service are the first to reap the rewards of a $50 million redevelopment of the health service under the Southern Inland Health Initiative. For the last few months the food service staff have been producing meals for patients from a temporary transportable kitchen, but now they have moved back into their refurbished home, a contemporary kitchen featuring brand new stainless-steel equipment. WA Country Health Service Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said progress was being made on the two year construction project. “In addition to the refurbished kitchen, minor works on the sewer have been finished, external walls are up and the roof is on for the inpatient area and new outpatient building and part of the front carpark is complete” Mr Conlan said. “By the time the construction period is complete around the end of 2018, the...

    Wyalkatchem-Koorda health service upgrade on track 02 October 2017 The refurbishment of Wyalkatchem-Koorda Health Service is taking shape with the first two stages complete. Wheatbelt Regional Director Sean Conlan said construction started at the beginning of this year and was progressing according to plan. “The first stage of the refurbishment included a new kitchen, activity room for day therapy, and a communications room,” Mr Conlan said. “This is now complete and staff are working in the new kitchen. “The communications room accommodates more and better technology, including wireless data in a central fire-proof location.” The refurbishment’s second stage has also been completed, incorporating a fully assisted shower, new staff station incorporating digital X-ray processing equipment, and a new clean utility area for storing medications. “In the final stage of the refurbishment, upgrades will be made to the ...

    Collie redevelopment celebrated 28 September 2017 The $7.8 million Collie Health Service redevelopment has officially opened and patients and staff are now benefitting from an upgraded emergency department, new reception and triage areas, and updated acute treatment areas. The construction began in March 2016 and was completed in three stages to allow the health service to continue to operate without interruption. The first stage of the refurbishment included the new administration area, refurbishments to the hospital entry and reception area, medical records room and outpatients loan equipment facilities. The second stage of the refurbishment included a staged emergency department refurbishment, a new reception and triage area, waiting room and three acute treatment bays.     Unique design for Karratha hospital 19 September 2017 The $207.15 million Karratha Health Campus will be the biggest investment in a public hospital ever undertaken in regional WA. WA Country Health Service Pilbara, Regional Director Margi Faulkner, said it is an exciting and complex project which has already attracted a lot of local attention. “We wanted to design a hospital that allows people to heal in an environment that is comforting and reduces stress and I think we have achieved that,” she said. “Health facilities attract a lot of attention and involve a high level of collaboration to ensure the design is affordable, sustainable and with flexibility to adapt to change over a 30–50 year life cycle.” Situated in remote Pilbara and facing extreme weather conditions, the hospital design was a unique challenge for the HASSELL design team working on the impressive building. “We wanted the community to en...
